Home With The Kids
I opened this post with a picture because it's nice to have something beautiful to look at before you delve into our daily doings. :)
I awoke today having slept just a little late. I want to get back to my normal schedule, but I keep ending up in bed late for one reason or another. Tonight I'm trying to get a jump on things so I'll have a little extra TV time and actually end up in bead early. Anyway, all that doesn't really have anything to do with anything.
I got up and got to work around 7AM. By 10AM or so, I was basically done for the day. It wasn't that there wasn't more work for me to do, but my hand hurt so bad from days of typing that I decided to give it a rest. It's amazing how much typing I have to do each day. At the moment I'm certainly working on the “game” part of game development. I haven't written code in weeks. All my time is eaten up firming up concepts and correlating tons of ideas and information. It really is a lot of work, but I honestly think it's going to be worth it in the end. We are really building a spectacular game.
Around the time I wrapped up work Rachel headed up town with Abby and Josian. There were some groceries we needed/wanted (you can't really call ice cream a need). She had to spend the last of our ready cash to get what we needed. The washing machine ate a bit of a hole in our budget. Still, Lord willing, some money will be coming in from Western Union in the next day or two.
While Rachel was gone I watched the kids, rested my hand and brain, and played Dwarf Fortress. I don't have any pictures of that because Rachel took the camera with her. That's probably for the best as I can't imagine most of you would be interested in photos of me playing computer games. I will, however, share with you some of the pictures Rachel took in Roseau. (I'm just going to pick some of the ones I like. She may post more and tell you about them later.)
One thing I did want to mention was that Rachel bought those Crocs for EC$5.00. She's been wanting a pair of house shoes for weeks. Now she's got them :)
I should mention at this point that Caleb has made an army of friends here. He knows almost none of their names, but they all know his name. We hear shouts of “Caleb”, “Caleb”, “Caleb”, as we walk down the street. He gets “thumbs up” from people here and there. This afternoon five or six kids came over during the school's lunch break. They came back over after school. The only one I know the name of is named Caleb and I would guess he's five or six years old. The small crowd watched Caleb playing on Ben's computer and tinkered with our Kindles and Rachel's Android cell phone. One of them wanted me to let him play Dwarf Fortress, but I explained that it was a little too complicated for someone his age.
After Rachel got home I took the kids to the Sea. I tried to get some more interesting pictures for you guys. There are so many beautiful views here it's amazing.
On the way back up Caleb ran into some of his friends playing in the street. He stopped to talk for a moment or two.
I snapped a few more shots as we walked home.
This was really a bit of a quiet day for me. It was nice. Tomorrow I've got to try to get a little more work done. Lord willing, my hand will hold up. Most people would figure that my years of computer work would make me immune to things like this. The fact is that I have never typed so much over so long a period of time in my life. I've got to put together a document for the team outlining exactly what we need for the Demo we're putting together. It has to be ready before the end of August and we can't waste time just writing demo code. What we show has to be a real part of the game.
Anyway, I really need to wrap it up tonight. My hand is already getting sore and I have a lot more to do tomorrow. So, good night from Dominica!

Just wondering if you can roll up a towel or something and use it as a wrist support. I know they sell some kind of foam thing to help people with wrist problems from typing. Enjoyed the pictures and the blog. Love you all.
ReplyDeleteI think the main problem is that I'm working on the floor, lol. I don't want to bring more furniture into this house as we're almost certainly going to be moving soon. So I just set my work computer up on the floor in our bedroom.
Deleteyeah photos of the front of the kids. Great too. They look like they are even growing to me.The pictures of Abby shopping were great, also the shelves in the store look like Walmart even.
ReplyDeleteYou may try cool or cold presses on your arm. Not sure what else to do for it.
Some of it is like Walmart. Well, really it's a lot more like little shops before Walmart got so big. You should come check them out sometime :)
DeleteI'm trying to work the kids into more pictures for you guys. You should also come see them sometime :)
