It's amazing how quickly time can fly by. This afternoon Abby was saying that it didn't seem like we had been here that long. Ben observed that it felt like we'd been here a lot longer than that. The fact is that both are true. On the one hand it feels like we just got here, on the other it feels like we've been here for months. We have to renew our lease tomorrow. It looks like we're going to be spending at least one more month in this house. If it weren't for the heat and lack of yard space this house would be awesome for us. It's a really nice place.
One of the nice thing about it is that bananas are growing in the yard. This morning we found out that we were welcome to them if we wanted them. Dilian helped us harvest them and showed Rachel how to peal them while they're still green. One of the things he pointed out is that some people slice them up and fry them just like potato chips. (Like I've said several times green bananas are a lot like potatoes.)
Rachel snaped a couple shots of Caleb and Felicity playing this morning before she cooked breakfast. We had turkey ham, eggs, and fired grits. Again, it was excellent.
The rest of the day flew by. I had a fair amount of work to do on the game today. (Including a three page post for the forums on our evolving magic system.) I also had to work on Lovell's laptop. I'm happy to say that with a little software (that Dilian got for me) the laptop is on the mend. I expect to get it back to her tomorrow. In fact, if the Internet hadn't been acting up I might have been able to finish it today. In addition I walked up the hill with Dilian and plugged him into my VPN temporarily. Using my connection he was able to setup his own. So, that worked out well for everyone :)
By the time I was done with all that the kids wanted to go to the sea. It was a few hours early, but it was hotter today than it had been and the heat was wearing on everyone's nerves. I took the kids down to cool them off. Rachel and Libby stayed at the house with the baby. We took a different route to the sea, to give you guys a different view of the place. (Plus I needed to pick up a bottle of vegetable oil so Rachel could cook dinner.)
While we were down there some birds started feeding on the small fish that are basically everywhere.
One of the locals caught a few in a cleaning bucket he was washing out. He thought the kids would like to see them so he walked down the beach to invite us to come over and take a look. Needless to say they thought it was great.
When we got back the little ones crashed.
Caleb is very popular around here. He often attracts crowds of passing people by yelling greetings to them. Today he was talking to a group for about 20 minutes or so. Rachel took some pictures.
Just before sun down a neighbor was harvesting mangoes across the street. She heard Caleb, Abby, and Libby talking rather loudly about how they wished they could get some mangoes. When she was done she brought some over to give them.
That's how the people are around here. It really reminds me of home. It makes me feel like we really can build a new home here.
Either way, I'm still working on this laptop and have some phone calls I want to make before I start TV time tonight. So, I guess this is a good time to wrap it up. Good night from Dominica!
Thanks for taking all the pics and taking the time to blog. It keeps me feeling like I'm not so far away. I love you all.
