Busy Day
Once again I got up about 5 minutes before the alarm went off this morning. It was good because I really do have a lot of work to do. In minutes my teeth were brushed, my coffee made, and I was typing away.
It seems like today was almost destined to make up for yesterday's lack of pictures. This first one was something Rachel wanted to share.
It's just a box of laundry detergent, but it's supposed to wash 90 loads and costs EC$25.00/US$9.37. That's probably at least close to the price of Tide back home. Apparently Ultra Vista is made in the USA. So, it's a soap-flavored taste of home, lol. Either way, we should be able to let you know how well it works soon.
Later in the morning Rachel made a discovery.
Yep, a mother hen has hacked 10 chicks under the house. And the rule around here seems to be “If it lives in your yard it's yours.” So, the Lord may have solved our “We need chickens.” problem.
Anyways, I worked on for a couple of hours and decided to take a bit of a walk. Obviously I took the camera with me.
I should have taken a couple more pictures of the field with the cows in it. It's some of the only flat land around here.
If you're wondering that's a banana field. It's also on some relatively flat soil.
I don't know who's yard that is, but I want something like that. Once I get my own land down here I plan to level it and grow a mighty lawn! It will stay a beautiful green all year round. Plus I can feed the goats (and possibly cows) I hope to have in time.
Shortly after I got home Rachel wrestled some chicks away from the mama hen. She likes her chickens to be very tame and so is starting them young. Needless to say the kids love em.
By early afternoon I had completed my work so we went for a sea bath. Dilian and DJ happened to be going down at the same time, so we all went together. There were still waves breaking and once again the kids rolled the log down in the water to play with. For whatever reason the sea was even more beautiful than normal.
Dilian threw Abby a few times. I managed to get a couple of pictures.
There's some kind of head statue on top of a post at a nearby house. I have no idea what it is, but I took a picture anyway.
After we got home we made a couple more discoveries. The first was a crab that was hiding in a shell Caleb had found on the beach.
Sorry for the poor picture quality, but the crab wasn't very big (it's in the lid of a Coke bottle).
We also finally saw one of the countless frogs we hear chirping every night.
Anyway, it's been a long day. I hope you get some enjoyment out of the pictures. I'm suppose to go to town tomorrow to talk to someone about a car. I'll try to get some pictures during the trip. Well, it's time for rest and television. So, good night from Dominica!

You also need to grab a "quarter bag" of corn meal and another gallon of ice cream while you're there. And don't forget those speakers you wanted!
ReplyDeleteI will try to remember :)
DeleteLoved the pics. Even the chickens, crab, and frog---haha. Also loved the pic of Abigail in mid-air! Love and miss you all very, very much!
ReplyDeleteMom
We miss you guys too.
DeleteLove the fact that you guys now have some chickens if they will stay, you need to feed them a lot so they will. You may consider eating the little roosters in about 5 or 6 months and about then the little pullets should start laying a few eggs. We have oodles of baby chicks here now and got a new bag of chick starter for them today.
ReplyDeleteRachel is feeding them like crazy. Hopefully they'll know a good thing when they see it. Of course, here a Chicken is only ever about 50 feet from food. So I'm not sure they'll find getting fed a good enough motivator to stay with us, lol.
