A Working Weekend
There's a time to work and a time to play. I think for the next few weekends at least I'm going to have to combine those times. The demo we plan to do for Worlds of Magic is actually going to make use of most of the major systems the full game is going to need. That means by the time we get the demo hammered together we'll be close to the half-way point on the base game from a code point of view. Well, from a “tricky code” point of view. A lot of the game content really amounts to data entry once the systems are in place. We'll have a lot more than half of that left to do, but that's the easy part.
I spent the day swapping from Dwarf Fortress to working on the documentation for the demo. I admit I spent a lot more time actually playing the game that typing in the doc. However, work requires a lot more forethought. I can't just go typing away. I have to think about what we're trying to accomplish, map it out in my head and then start typing. Anyways, I intend to do some more tomorrow. In fact, I really need to pull out the stops and try to finish before Monday. That way I can open the week with that.
Of course, all that has very little to do with the Caribbean, so I'm not sure how many of you are interested in any of that. Still, all of it was leading up to the fact by around Noon I was ready for a break. The kids wanted to go to the sea as did Rachel. We left Titus with Ben and went down for an hour or so.
It wasn't long before some of Caleb's friends realized we were taking a sea bath. As it was Saturday a few of them decided to join us.
After a few minutes they decided to pull a log from the beach down in the water. Needless to say, the kids loved that :)
Once we got back I spent a few more hours working/playing. I started to do my blog a little early and realized I really hadn't gotten out much today. I got a wild hair and decided to walk to Scotts Head. I walked there and back in about an hour and half. It's 2.5 miles from Sourfriere and I climbed up the hill on the far side of the bay. I don't know how fast I was walking, but “fast” probably covers it, lol. I took a picture of my target as I headed out.
Shortly after I got a good shot of a “sea crab” and a pretty Coca-Cola painted building.
As I progressed I took pictures sourfriere getting further away.
By time Soufriere was there Scotts Head was here:
That helped me press on. I got a good shot of the hill I was later to climb.
Once I got there I took a few pics of the Atlantic Ocean.
Then I got a shot I love.
On the right is the Atlantic Ocean and on the Left the Caribbean Sea. I moved on up the hill walking on a slightly overgrown road. I ran into some ruins that I weren't sure what were. Of course, a shot ways ahead I found the answer.
Yep, it was part of an old fort. How cool is that? While I was up there I took another photo of Soufriere as well.
I also took the shot of Scotts Head that everyone takes. In addition I wanted to get a shot of the different shades of blue in the bay. You can see how it turned out.
I need a better camera. I believe that is one of the popular snorkeling locations here and the different shade of blue are amazing. My camera just can't catch em... Either way, it was time for me to head back. I saw some more ruins and plan to go back for another explore later.
I really want a car. I want to take the kids down there, but without a vehicle it would be a pain. I took one last shot of the coast as I headed back. Once again, the camera can't show you what's really here, but it will at least give you an idea.
Needless to say, I'm worn out. We have Church tomorrow and I want to get in a bit of TV. So in the spirit of getting that done: Good night from Dominica!
