A Slow Blog Day
It's not that it was a slow day, it's just been a bit slow from a blog point of view. Why? Well, it's Tuesday and my week's work follows very much in the same vein that it did yesterday. That is to say: it's going great. I did notice a couple of interesting things last night. I woke up at, well, I don't know what time it was, but about 50 or so dogs were barking full tilt. It was like the twilight bark. If dogs talk, they must have had a lot to say last night. Of course, it struck me that it's not the first time I woke up to a chorus of barking dogs, it's just the first time I was conscious enough to realize that it had happened before.
I woke up a little later in the night to rooster after rooster crowing out the not-yet-dawn. Rachel tells me that it happens around 4AM. She actually checked. Now, it's not the kind of thing that wakes me up as we had our own roosters right up until the move. We thought there was something wrong with them because they started crowing around 4AM, but it seems that's the norm. Or at least, our roosters and the ones here would agree about the best time to start crowing.
If either of those things would wake you up or keep you up you might want to bring earplugs if you head down this way. Right before 6AM I was awakened by another familiar noise. It seems Titus was ready for his breakfast a little early. I put him in bed and didn't bother to get back in myself. I was brushing my teeth when the alarm I hadn't turned off started blaring out it's “Wake up!”
Now, I know that none of this seems to explain how it was a slow blog day. Well, it all revolves around the camera. You may have noticed that up to this point my tale doesn't have any pictures (barring the one at the top). That's because none of my narrative so far has required any photographic support. I suppose I could have taken a picture of a local dog and a local chicken, but as they're just dogs and chickens I didn't see the point.
Anyways, I turned off the alarm and got to work. For three hours I sat there typing away to great purpose. I think I'm actually getting the pile of work under control. I can only keep my mind (and hand) working like that for about six hours a day. It's not like I can just pull a sixteen hour day and catch up. My brain (and wrist) have to be working at near full capacity to do that kind of work. Fortunately, playing Civ 5 really is part of my work. So, I wrapped up my day with 2 hours of that. I'll probably try to keep that up for the next few weeks. Civ is the largest 4X franchise ever made. I feel certain I can learn a lot from it.
In any event, I decided to take a quick walk around 9AM. I was due for a break. I headed down to the Catholic Church and took a few pictures of the graveyard. It may seem like a morbid subject for photography, but as you can see, it's actually very pretty.
They do need to pull that plant out of the wall though before it does any damage :) I took a few more pictures before heading back.
I had a lot of work to do and didn't realize at the time that Rachel would take the camera with her to town and not take any pictures. So, I didn't get any pictures of the kids at the sea today (they might have even been interesting because there were actually some waves down there) and I didn't get any pictures of town.
However, Rachel did get a picture of this:
That's eggs that got frozen in the fridge. I wish she had taken some pictures as she was shelling them. It was an interesting sight to behold. Anyway, by the time Rachel got back from town I didn't feel up to going out to get any more pictures. Especially as it was Church night. I did however take a few pictures while we were there.
It's late. Really late to be finishing my blog. In fact, there's a good chance I'll post this and go to bed. At some point tonight it hit me that we've been here for five weeks. The day almost slipped by without my realizing it. I imagine it won't be long and the days will run together and we'll just have been here for “a few months” or “a few years” or whatever it ends up being. Every day our life returns a little more to “normal” it's just that normal down here comes with mountains, rivers, beaches, and trees loaded with fruit. It also comes without a winter. That's a big plus for me :)
As wonderful as it is I still miss my family. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mom & Dad E. when they finally make it down here and hope that somehow Mom & Dad Y. will also be able to make the trip. I also have Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and Nephews I hope to see soon. I really need to get a big boat. Lord willing I'll be able to early next year.
This has run longer than I meant it to and I really need to get to bed. So, goodnight from Dominica!

I know it was a busy day for you. I think I'll bring my sound machine with me when we come so I (hopefully) won't hear the music, dogs, roosters, etc. when I'm trying to sleep late, which I hope to do some. I'll probably jump out of bed and go walking with you, then start my day. Hopefully, daddy will walk too and maybe we can get all the kids walking like we did at home. I don't know about pushing a stroller around up there though---lol. Ben, Gabriel, and Alec are all big enough to handle a toddler or baby in a back pack though. It should be interesting. Got a few things to figure out before we can come, but hopefully, won't be too long. I'm praying about it. Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteBy the time you get here I expect we'll be living more out in the country. It will be like when you set a sound machine to "Rain Forest", lol.
DeleteAnd, yes, I expect we'll get back into some kind of walk routine once you're here :)
Five weeks only and when I read this I feel like you are there for many many months.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. In some ways it seems like we've been down here a lot longer. Maybe in January/February you can fly down for a bit of a tropical vacation. By then, I should have a car, lol.
DeleteMiss you guys.
ReplyDeleteWhat if any kind of jobs are there for people our ages?
Love Aunt Sarie
The job market here isn't great depending on what your skill set is. Job creation is something the populace should really be focusing on.
