Slow Internet Beats No Internet

The power went out last night. Thank the Lord it was right at bedtime anyway. The kids weren't thrilled about it, but started a Strongbad DVD on Libby's laptop to watch as they drifted off to sleep. I don't know when they got it fixed, but at 10:40PM I woke up and the power was back on. None of the kids woke up though, they all slept through the night.

I got up at 6AM ready to get to work. After my normal morning routine I went to check the Internet speed hoping it had gone back up. No dice. In fact, no dial tone. Yes, not only was the Internet completely down, but the phone was as well. Because of my almost unfathomable optimism I checked the phone again about twenty minutes later. We had a dial tone. I thought to myself “Hmmm... They must be working on the lines. Maybe they'll get us up to full speed today!” I know, my optimism really can be hard to take in at times.

Needless to say they didn't get us up to full speed. In point of fact the Internet is still down and it's 4:44PM right now. I'll say this, I haven't gone quietly into that Internetless night. I've struggled against the slings and arrows of outrageous customer service and by opposing it didn't really accomplish anything. Don't get me wrong, everyone is very polite. They are all very sorry about the trouble we're having. All of them remember to tell me that. Sadly none of them seem to be able to do anything about it. A man is supposed to come around tomorrow and take a look (like he was supposed to today), but I'm not convinced he's going to be able to help us. I'm basically positive it's not an issue with this house.

If they don't get something done soon we're going to have to come up with something else. I can't be out of work for two months, especially right now. All works for the good of them that love the Lord. I do love the Lord, so I'm certain all this will work out. Still, for the moment it's pretty aggravating.

I'm stopping here. For one thing I don't know how many posts I'll need to do when I can finally do one. For another I'm very tired for some reason. Either way, on Wednesday August 28th 2013 we were wishing you all a very good night from Dominica!

  1. Was the man able to fix your internet glitch? And what caused you to think the problem had something to do with your house? Depending on the location, there are times when the power runs out, the internet connection slows down or takes too long to reconnect. You did the right thing by calling costumer service right away. I hope they were able to fix your connection though. Jannette @ TlinkBroadBand.com

    1. The Tech tested the line from the pole to the house and felt that it was the problem. He was getting up to 15 megabits at the pole, but only 5 at the other end of the line that connected the pole to the house.

    2. One other thing: I suspect you're a bot. Are you?
