Dial-Up Days?

OK, so I admit that our Internet isn't actually as slow as dial-up was back in the day, but it feels a lot like that. We didn't go to town because the technician from Lime called to say he could come by the house and take a look today. He showed up just a few minutes later and determined that there was nothing he could do.

It turns out there's a conduit around here somewhere that leaks at one of the joints. When we get a lot of rain the conduit fills up like a water pipe and the internet speed drops terribly. He said that they're aware of the problem, but couldn't give me any kind of ETA on it being fixed. So, our Internet is going to be crawling until it isn't. That's not a big help, but at least now we know. It's stopped raining for the moment and I'm going to keep checking the speed to see if it goes up as the pipe dries out (in theory).

In any event, I spent the day working away. I'm making real progress which makes me feel really good. Rachel spent the day cleaning, washing clothes, and cooking. Later in the afternoon I took Ben and Alec with me to collect a load of green bananas and star fruit from the side of the road. Gabriel stayed behind to help Rachel cook, which was much appreciated. Once again we had tortillas with lentils, rice, and guacamole. Once again it was delicious. We need to see if we can't find a recipe for “Star Fruit Pie” or something, lol. We've been out of cocoa for more than a week and hence, no brownies.

Tomorrow brother David is suppose to pick us up and take us to town. We're going to try to get everything taken care of so that we won't have to go back for a month. Lord willing we'll get it all straight. For the moment I'm going to run. Our upload speed is down to a little less than half what is was last night. It's probably going to take me more than an hour to upload the few pictures I have. So, for now at least, goodnight from Dominica!

  1. Supper sounds great. Glad to see all the fruit and bananas in the kitchen. So glad Gabriel is able and willing to help Rachel cook! The few pictures you did post were great. Hope you internet speed gets back to normal soon. We always have trouble when it rains here too. That splice in the cable somehow manages to get water in it when it rains. Anyway, hope you have an enjoyable and profitable trip to town tomorrow!
    Love you all,
    Mom

    1. Yes, we're going to try to keep more fruit in the house. It's easy to get down here, I just tend to forget when I'm out on a walk :)
