So Close To The Weekend

Well... I'm tired... Crazy tired... I thank the Lord that tomorrow is Saturday and I hope that he gives me a day of complete rest. Don't get me wrong, the day has gone great. It's been wonderful, but it's worn me slap out.

The story actually starts last night after my blog, but I want to set that on the side long enough to say that work went very well this morning. I fell into my routine and got a lot done. The game is taking firmer shape day by day and my coding went great. I'm all teed up to start working on damage resistance and immunity next week :) Anyways, enough about that.

Last night I got to thinking about the blender. Alec wanted to make something “local” and kept bouncing ideas off of me and looking up recipes on the Internet. Finally I thought about Coconut Milk. I was something I figured I would like and, now that we had a blender, it was something we could make. So Alec and I cleaned up some coconut, blended it up, and strained it. It was perfect coconut milk.

Having gone that far I decided it was best to go a bit father and made chocolate syrup to go with it. The end result was chocolate coconut milk. (If you're wondering it's delicious.)

Now, you may be asking yourself how a glass of chocolate coconut milk last night wore me out today. The answer started on my daily walk. Gabriel and Alec went with me. Each of us carried a bag. We intended to find and bring home coconuts. We took one of my more familiar paths and before long our bags had something in them.

That's drying coco, which is something else I'm very interested in :)

That's eleven coconuts. It was our haul from our little walk. Once we got back I jumped on my programming work. I needed a break anyways, lol. It wasn't long after that my work day came to an end and we headed for the sea.

It was a little murky and the batteries in the underwater camera died before I could get any good shots. We didn't stay long...

For one thing I had a pile of coconuts back home that we needed to open and clean. That alone was quite a chore.

After a whole lot of blending we had about a liter of coconut cream. That gave us two liters of coconut milk :) It's not bad, but we need a juicer or something. There's something nice about doing things yourself, but I spent about three hours making two liters of milk... I'm tired...

On that note I'm bringing this post to a close. Good night from Dominica!

  1. That's what you call working for your food! lol We have a juicer. Remind your mother-in-law (to remind me--lol) and we will try to get it in the next barrel. I applied for my passport today, but Betty couldn't. She didn't have an original birth certificate. I will go with her when she gets that and goes to apply. I'm tired tonight too, but daddy and I accomplished a lot today!

    Love you all,
    Mom

    1. Sounds like you got a lot done. Mom Yates needs to get her passport taken care of ASAP. Everyone is looking forward to seeing you all. (I wish we could convince Dad Yates to come for a visit as well.)

A juicer would be appreciated. I'm not trying that again without one, lol.

    1. Rachel can try to Skye with you tonight. I think the main issue was her laptop battery and that's taken care of now.

And no Ma'am, the liquid inside a coconut is Coconut Water. And the locals here don't drink it from a ripe coconut (I think because they agree with you that it's not that great). If they want coconut water they get it from a green coconut. Coconut Milk/Cream comes from the flesh of the coconut. You make it just like I did. I should have made a video of me pouring the cream. You'd have been able to see how rich and thick it was. It's got a high fat content and is very much like a vegetable version of cream.

Either way, it's an easy mistake to make. Until I got down here I always thought coconut water was coconut milk :)
