My Two Nephews
I awoke this morning with the knowledge that today was the big day. Gabriel and Alec were due to arrive at 1:40PM and I had to be there to pick them up. I also had to head up Bible class at Church before we left. On top of that I hadn't gotten in touch with brother Freddy at all last week. I figured he hadn't forgotten us, but I still found myself wishing I had double checked with him earlier.
The Church bus showed up to get us right at 9AM, which is about 15 minutes earlier than normal. I flew out the house with a few of the kids and without Rachel. Fortunately we ended up having more time than I thought and Rachel got the rest of the kids ready and met us at the bus before we left Soufriere. I also managed to wake brother Freddy up and he told me he hadn't forgotten us. In fact, it turned out I only woke him up about 20 minutes before he had set his alarm to go off. (Normally he would have been up, but hadn't gotten to bed until close to 3AM.)
Brother Selwyn and I went through the service rather quickly. In fact we were almost finished when brother Freddy showed up at 11AM to pick the Ethridge clan up. He wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to get there so the boys wouldn't end up waiting on us. We finished services and climbed in the bus. We dropped Rachel, Libby, Felicity, Isaac, and Titus off at the house. Ben, Abby, and Caleb wanted to come with me to pick their cousins up.
After close to two hours of driving we reached the airport. Abby and Caleb wanted to play in a nearby river while we waited and I decided to let them. We had more than twenty minutes before the plane was due to arrive, so I figured I had plenty of time to walk down to the river and back.
That's the reason I didn't get any video of the their plane landing. For the first time ever (as long as Freddy could remember anyway, and he's been working the airport for like eight years) the plane was early. I got back to where I could have videoed the landing just in time to miss even seeing the plane land.
Of course, the important thing is that the plane landed safely. I also didn't think to pull out the camera until we were all loaded back up in brother Freddy's bus. Still, better late than never.
To make up for missing picture opportunities I took a load of photos of the road from the airport to Pond Casse (I've been spelling it wrong this whole time... It's Pond Casse).
When we arrived we were greeted with just-out-of-the-oven pizza. The boys ate, got something to drink and took showers. They're already settling in. I think being able to move right in with Aunt Rachel and Uncle Jeremy has made the entire experience a lot easier for them. The more of us that get down here the easier it will be on newcomers :)
Yes, she was rolling the dough with a water bottle. Pretty clever eh? (She was actually told about doing it that way by some of the locals.) To top things off we're having brownies for dessert :)
All things considered it's been a wonderful day. I would take the boys down to the sea and let Garbiel use his underwater camera, but today is the last day of “Scuba Fest” or whatever it's called and there are hundreds of more people here than normal and most of them are at the sea.
So, we're going to wait until tomorrow. I also need to go buy at least one computer case tomorrow so I can get one of their computers up and running. Which means a trip to town... uggg... It's not that it's a big deal except I really need to try to get a lot done on the game tomorrow... Either way, I recon it will all work out :)
The brownies are done!
One last note: The boys brought a few things with them that we wanted from the states. One of the things was a wrap Rachel could use to carry the two baby boys.
Anyways, it's late and I'm ready to unwind. I should have more to share with you tomorrow, including Gabriel and Alec's first impressions. For the moment however, good night from Dominica!

Yay! Glad to see the blog with Gabriel and Alec there. I've been waiting on this one. Soooo thankful they arrived safely! Can't wait to see more pic tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank the Lord, everything went off without a hitch. Alec is already up and playing video games. The boys are looking forward to going to the sea this morning. I plan to take them, but so far it's one of the coolest mornings we've had down here. Still, I'm confident it will warm up shortly :)
