Spontaneous Relaxation

I got to bed a little later than I wanted to last night. At the time I thought it was no big deal. I figured I could just sleep a little late in the morning. I had forgotten that the sun comes up a little before six and shortly after it's bright rays are filling the sky the horns of the taxis are filling the air. I forced myself to lay there until around 7AM, but I'm not sure how much good it did me. I would probably have done better just to get up, lol.

In the morning we had a bit of rain. As usual it was very refreshing. I tried to take some pictures. This is what I got:

I also took a few pics of the kids hanging around the house.

From morning until afternoon nothing much happened. Rachel made more bakes for breakfast. They were very good. Josian came down the hill to help Rachel make pumpkin soup. I went up the hill to help Dilian play World of Tanks.

The soup was excellent and inexpensive, another perfect meal (Abby ate three bowls). Rachel also made some passion fruit juice, which I really like. For the next hour or so I played Never Winter with Joey and Daryl. I'm also looking forward to playing WoT with Dilian. I'm glad I got him playing :)

The kids wanted to go for a sea bath this afternoon, but I didn't feel up to it. However, the idea that I had moved to a tropical island and planned to spend the rest of the day playing video games struck me as odd. So, I decided to take them. Before we got out the door Rachel checked the weather report and we decided a sea bath might not be the best idea. (Swells up to eight feet were expected.) So, we decided to go for a little explore instead. We started by walking to the catholic Church down the street.

I also snapped a shot of a building currently under construction right by the Church and beach.

I'm wondering just what it's going to be. As we continued on I noticed that I had a much clearer shot of Gallion, so I took a picture. In this one you can actually see where I was standing when I took the pictures of Soufriere.

We had to climb over a bit of a rock to continue our exploration of the beach. It's heights afforded me a good view of the Caribbean water.

The kids found a bunch of sea snails clinging to the rocks as we passed.

I also stumbled up on some trees that were even more like the mimosas back home.

We walked along a much rockier rock beach and saw a very interesting tree clinging to the cliff face. I addition we flushed a few land crabs out of hiding.

It's funny what you'll find on the shore out here. We walked up on the frame of a car and an old CD drive.

I climbed up on a big rock standing out in the water to get some pictures. I think it was worth the effort to get up there.

Caleb wanted me to take a picture of him on a rock as well. So I did :)

As we headed back I took a couple of pictures of the moon. I really need a better camera.

I also took some pictures of a couple of houses down here. At first glance this photo may paint a picture of poverty.

A second look makes you realize that poverty is not what it seems down here. (That's a power meter on the wall. Yes, that house has electricity.)

The house almost directly across the street highlights the fact that in some ways Dominica is a land of contrast.

Now, one thing I want you all to understand is that our little adventure was nothing more than a walk. We were back in less than an hour having seen all those things. Also, Soufriere is just one small village. Once we have transportation we hope to see a lot more of the Nature Island. We also hope to be in a position to entertain guests that are fortunate enough to come visit us here.

My entire day consisted of my work (which I actually finished early), a couple hours video gaming, and a walk in a tropical paradise. It may not seem like a very full day, but it is down here. I hope that some day some of you will get to experience it yourselves.

Once again it's time for me to wrap it up. So, good night from Dominica!

  1. Here is my first comment from my laptop----thanks to your help. If you had been here seeing what all was happening to me as I tried writing this, you would have laughed till you couldn't breathe. It jumped back and forth between here where I was typing and the pictures. Then the cursor would jump around in this paragraph. It was hysterical! I Just hope I can figure out how to publish it to facebook. I have soooo much to learn about this laptop, but maybe it's good to give my brain a challenge! Love the pics as usual and miss you all. This laptop has a mind of its own! Love to all and goodnight.

  2. LOVE the pics! I would so love to explore like that! How does Neverwinter compare to Neverwinter Nights? Liked Neverwinter Nights but haven't signed on to Neverwinter. Lacking time... Might do it if it's as good/better than Neverwinter Nights. ;)

So far I think Neverwinter is better than the original Neverwinter Nights. It's a lot of fun. If you like D&D games it is certainly worth taking a look. Especially as it's in open beta right now and will be free to play when it comes out. If you get the time it's worth taking a look :)
