A Quiet Saturday

For my own part I woke up not feeling 100%. I wanted to get a few hours of work done, but we were thinking about going to take a look at one of the houses we're considering leasing. We've got this house for a month, but it's just too close to the shore and too “in town” for us. Now, you might be shocked by my wanting to move away from the shore. However, here it's not just the water that's at the beach, it's the heat. We want to go without air conditioning as that will save electricity, but here it's a challenge. Well, today has actually been very nice, but it can get hot. In the south we are used to heat. In fact, it gets a lot hotter in South Carolina than it does here. However, back home we could go mow the lawn in 100 degree weather and then go sit in the AC. As we don't have an AC here the heat is inescapable. Two of the nights have even been warn enough that it was hard to sleep. The house we were looking at is up in the mountains and it's about 10 degrees cooler during the day and can get down the 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night. That is perfect for us.

Either way, that's not really the point. The point is that we couldn't go see the house today so I got to stay home while Rachel went to town. For my own part I hung around the house working, making phone calls, and playing Master of Magic. That is actually part of my work right now. The video game I am working on is meant to be a spiritual successor to MoM. So, I play it to get the “feel” of the game in my brain. It helps me stay focused on what Worlds of Magic is meant to be.

The grandmothers have been asking of more pics of what the kids have been doing. Well, today was the first day since we got here me and the kids just stayed home. I, for one, was very happy about it. I took some pictures of the kids this morning.

Once they were all up the “I'm hungry” started. I had to deal with it until Rachel got back from town. She got a fair amount of shopping done and even managed to take a few pictures in the grocery store. This was especially impressive when you consider that she took Titus with her. Also, it might surprise you what you can buy at Astaphan's in Roseau. (The ice cream is a tad cheaper than at home.) Before heading home she picked up some pizzas to give the kids a special treat.

Today went well, but both Rachel and I are worn out. We also got some disappointing news this afternoon. The house we wanted to lease is now leased out until September. So, we're back to house hunting. Of course, now Dilian knows just what we want and has already started hunting for us. Keep us in your prayers. We would really like to be up the mountains a bit, in more cool air and less city traffic. Plus I want a house with room to park a car and,of course, a car to park in the room.

  1. Thanks so much for the pics. I got a "feel" for Roseau (I guess that's where Rachel went shopping). It is amazing there are so many of the same things at the grocery store that we're used to seeing here. Did Rachel have to ride the "mini bus taxi" to the store and back? Are there several buses coming and going at different times so you can stay in town as long as you want? I'm also wondering if Rachel tells you to be at the bus stop at a certain time to help her bring the groceries home from the bus stop or how does that work? I'll be praying for you and hope you find the perfect house in the perfect place soon! Love you! Mom

  2. Brother Freddy is a taxi bus driver (he's the one that brought us from the airport) and he picked me up and then we picked up Josian and went to Roseau. He sat in the minibus (in the beloved a/c) waiting for us at each stop. We went to Astaphan's and Save a Lot (which Josian and I joked should be named Spend a Lot) and he also drove where the fresh produce was being sold along the road. I got a bunch of bananas for EC$3, also some carrots, cucumbers, and mangoes (but I forget what I paid for them). We didn't get pizza hut because Freddy (who lived in the US for several years) informed me that it is not like the pizza hut back home and I shouldn't waste the money on it.
