Last night wasn't quite as “party” as the night before. I might even have slept through the night uninterrupted had I not gotten cool enough that I woke up wanting a sheet. After a very good night's sleep I got up and handled the morning work I needed to get through before Church. I also managed to find the time to install a new game me and the guys are wanting to try out. As usual we weren't quite ready by the time the bus got here, but in true Dominican style they waited patiently for us. I have been asked for pictures of Dilian and Josian so people can put a face with a name. So, I took a couple at Church.
I also took a few more pictures just for fun. I open with another sail boat for uncle Grover and then move on to the the kids for the Grandparents sake.
Shortly after Church we headed down to Bubble Beach to meet some of the other homeschoolers on the island. They didn't show (in fact we're still not sure what happened), but the kids seemed to have a good time anyway.
Of course, after a few minutes in the warm water most of the kids wanted to move on to a cooler spot in the sea. So, we decided to walk over to another of our favorite spots. Dominica is the kind of place you have to explore to experience. For instance we found a sand beach right smack dab between two rocky ones. We've been to both sides of it several times, but until today had no idea there was a sand beach not 100 meters away from either of the other places. I decided to take a few pictures there as well.
As soon as we got back we got dried off and headed for the Bellot's for lunch. Rachel asked me to carry up a load of laundry for her since we were headed that way anyway. She thought it was cute to snap a picture of me while I did it. She also snapped one of Ben taking a break and talking to the baby.
After we arrived the kids started playing with some of the local boys who were playing cricket. They knew nothing of the game, of course, but they still had a great time.
Before long our “Pumpkin Soup” was served. They boil down some of the local pumpkins (not exactly like ours back home) and put in potatoes and bananas (“Fig” to the locals) as well as chicken. Of course, another little difference from back home is that they leave the bones in the chicken. Yep, even when they make soup. It was very good and I expect we'll end up making it ourselves. However, I feel certain we will take the bones out. They also made up some Limeonaid (as opposed to Lemonaid) which was very tasty.
After a long day (we didn't get home until around 4:30 and even then had to walk through a little rain) I rounded up Jesse and Daryl just in time to find out the the server for the new game was down. In true gamer fashion we just logged on to WoT and blew up tanks instead of worrying about it. Tomorrow Jesse is supposed to be free around 2PM, which is when I get off work. Lord willing we'll get a little more gaming in tomorrow.
That's it for the moment guys. I really wish you could come see us. This is truly a place where you could sit and do nothing and at the end of the day still feel the time had been well spent. It is honestly something you have to experience to understand. Either way, for the moment I have to go. The television (or computer in this case) isn't going to watch itself, lol. So, for the moment, good night from Dominica!
Looks like you had a wonderful Sunday to me. I'm tired tonight. Late this afternoon, your dad, I, Gabriel, and Alec went to your house in Williston to get more stuff. (I really don't like to go out to your old house----brings back too many memories.) Your mother-in-law, Stephen, Samantha, Hayden, a friend of Samantha's and her little boy were already there when we got there. Myrtle came right behind us to get some stuff, and then Joey showed up. We all helped each other load up trucks and pack some stuff. There is still A LOT of stuff left there. Glad you are enjoying it in Dominica, but we sure do miss y'all. Thanks for all the pics. Keep them coming! Love to all.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it's been so much work for you guys. It's amazing how much stuff you collect over the years. It's also amazing how little you miss it if you leave it behind. Of course, I do wish there was a way to bring all my tools and everything we had in the kitchen here. I also wouldn't have minded being able to keep all our appliances, lol.
DeleteYou are adapting very quickly!
ReplyDeleteIt's good of you to say. Of course, the truth is there's very little to adapt to. It's mainly a matter of learning where to find food and how much is too much to pay for something, lol.
DeleteI'm checking this blog everytime before I went to bed, and if there is no new post, I'm just taking a quick look at few last photos.
ReplyDeleteWhen I woke up then, the first thing I do is to launch this Coming to Dominica. A good start for a good day.
I'm glad you enjoy it. :)
DeleteMy post tonight will be a little later than normal. We're going down to bubble beach to soak for a few minutes.
I have NO PROBLEM imagining sitting around there all day. Jerry and I love to just sit outside and enjoy nature, so that would be paradise to us. ;)
ReplyDeleteIf you can enjoy just hanging out all day I can't imagine a better place on Earth for you the Dominica :)
