Happy Mother's Day! Yes, our first Sunday here just happens to be on Mother's Day. We're supposed to be picked up for Church at around 9:30 and I can't help but wonder just how long we'll be there. It's not just regular service after all, there's the Mother's Day dinner afterword. Frankly I would like to see my parents today and then go to my parents-in-law's for dinner as we have often done in the past. This year we're going to have to do our visiting by phone. I hope by next year to have some method of transportation between here and the US.
In any event, I woke up this morning after a fitful night. It took forever to cool off last night. I woke up at some point and it started raining. That was a blessing. In minutes the temperature dropped and I was fast asleep. Being where we are, smack dab between the coast and the mountains, I thought we would always have a breeze. This is not the case, however. For hours last night we were in a dead calm. Even this morning it's taken a while for the breeze to start picking back up.
As usual I got up and got to work. Empty boxes in the kitchen are all that's left to remind us of the pizza last night. It's a pricey commodity here BTW. It was EC$120.00/US$45.00 for two large and one medium peperoni pizzas. Needless to say we won't be buying them often.
Shortly after writing the above Freddy showed up to take us to Church. It's in Scott's Head and in most ways it's a typical Church of Christ. If it hadn't been for the accents we could have been in Beach Island, including the singing. On thing that isn't typical is the view. You can even get up on the roof ATM. We did and snapped a few shots from there.
I had planned to take the kids to do something else today, but by the time we got home (around 1:30) I didn't feel like going back out. We just watched TV and played video games. I even put off doing much more work until tonight. I intend to get a bit more done before I go to bed. Rachel and I were so burned out that we had decided to scrounge for dinner. However, Dilian showed up to show Rachel how to make “Bakes” a local dish that actually has a name. They sound a lot like pancakes from the description. I had to stop typing to walk across the street and buy a small bottle of cooking oil (EC$3.00) to cook the “Bakes” with. I imagine some will be cooked before I finish writing this, in which case I can show you a picture :)
Dilian was also good enough to snap a few pictures with his phone, because my Mom had asked him to get some of the kids in the house. Apparently I'm not taking enough of those. I just feel most people are more interested in the views and what have you than our kids. Still, I can understand why the grandmothers would feel the way they do.
Tomorrow I hope to get a good deal of work done, get Ben's computer put together, and take the kids somewhere to do something. Lord willing it will all work out. Speaking of working out: we have a few leads on houses. We really need to find a place with a bit more yard and a bit less heat. Again, Lord willing, it will all work out, lol.
Thanks for all the pics, and thank Dilian for taking some pics of the kids in the house. Yes, it was a strange Mother's Day without most of my grandkids around. Hopefully we will be able to work something out by next year. Love you all and keep the posts coming. I miss you all very much, but this blog helps keep you all feeling close.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed a phone call from Rachel today for Mothers Day and also calls from 3 other of my kids today. The rose bush from Tiger looks good where Dad planted it. I still want to get the Skype thing installed so I can chat with the kids again too. I spent some of the day getting the house a bit cleaner as we will be having grandchildren visiting in about a week. Look forward to more news about the kids and how they like the food there and what they think of this new place.
ReplyDeleteMom E: I'm glad you're enjoying the pictures. And, yes, we have to get some way to go back and forth setup. I'm am going to start focusing my attention on it as soon as I am settled.
ReplyDeleteMom Y: Sounds like you had a good mother's day. We need to get skype setup for you!
