Or so we thought... Once again we awoke with the expectation of going to see the house we hope to lease in the long run. Once again dame fate decided to leave that hope unfulfilled. Freddy was going to pick us up at around 9:30AM, which would have given us plenty of time to get where we were going before our 11AM appointment. However, Freddy's work interfered with his plans and it was 12:30PM before we were able to head out. By that time our appointment had been canceled. Still, we decided to make the best of it and went to town anyway. Before we actually left Soufriere I took a picture of another cloud caught by the mountain top.
As we drove away I snapped a shot from up in the hills.
And on the way into Roseau I also got a pic of their public library.
Since our appointment was canceled we did a little shopping before heading out into the country to see if we couldn't stumble upon some houses for sale. We did get another realtor's web address and another's phone number. After we decided to head back into town we stopped at the botanical garden in Roseau. It seemed like a good place to get some pictures of the kids (And of the branches of the truly huge palm they were standing under).
There was this... I don't what to call it... It was a bunch of bamboo woven together into this almost a structure thing. It's a strange enough thing by itself, but what really shocked me was that the bamboo had thorns. I had never seen that before.
They had a pretty good sized iguana in a cage. We had to keep Caleb from jamming his fingers in the cage because they bite.
A couple of other things that were of interest were a nut Dilian showed me that you can suck on and an almost familiar looking tree. The nut will dissolve in you mouth leaving nothing but a perfectly clean seed. The tree is very similar to mimosas back home. (At least their leaves and seed pods are. Although the seed pods of the tree here are giant.)
There was also a good sized pine and some other palm I have no idea what is.
In addition there was a little museum type building that we let the kids walk through. It was certainly a “look but don't touch” situation.
Then we saw a tree that produces “Cannonball Fruit”. They say it's super hard. It also stinks and is inedible. Of course, so much is edible here that it stands out almost as a rarity, lol.
When we got back to the house the kids wanted to go for a sea bath. I didn't really feel up to it, but it had been a bit of a rough day for them. There had been a lot of “Wait in the car.” so I decided to take them.
Ben wanted me to dig up this giant rock from the bottom as our “meaningless quest” (I think that's how he put it). It took me a few minutes to dig it out, but I finally did :)
Shortly after that we were at Church where I took one last picture. It was of the moon above a palm tree. Many of these pictures prove one fact: I need a better camera. The images you guys are seeing are nothing compared to the real thing. One day I hope to get the means to show you.
Either way, Church service was very good. We sang a few songs and each of the men of the congregation said a prayer, even Ben. (Those of you who really know Ben can probably hear the prayer in your mind right now. Yep, same old standby, lol.)
It's been a busy day and one I am glad to be bringing to a close. I hope tomorrow to get more time to goof off with my friends online. We also need to make the time to Skype with the grandparents. There's always so much to do and so little time. I will end as I often do by wishing you a very good night from Dominica!
Whew! What a FULL day! Maybe you can get an upgraded camera one day, but for now, I still love all the pics! So many new and interesting things to see! Oh yes, I want to skype tomorrow night! Good luck on your house hunt tomorrow. Love you all! Goodnight from here in Williston!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the pictures. Really though, if I'm going to keep doing this (which I plan to) I should get a better camera.
