A Time To Play

So today is Saturday (if this is news to you then you probably have way too much to do or way too little) and it's been a day of rest for me. At least for the most part. I had a couple of hours of work to do when I first got up. After that I had a handful of e-mails come in over the course of the day. For the most part, however, it's been a day of playing Star Wars The Old Republic and doing as little as possible.

Speaking of “as little as possible” that's basically what my readership has dropped to since I returned to the US. I figure Josian and Mom Y. might be the only people reading these posts regularly. Still, it's a good way to let them know what we've been up to and acts as a short log book of my life. The days pass by so quickly that it's good to keep a record of them. That way I can look back and figure out where the time went.

Eventually I may actually be able to spend more time on this blog and put things worth reading in it. I'm quite certain that if we can act on our plan to become world travelers I'll get good readership at least six months out the year. The problem is that my day to day activities aren't exciting to most people. I have a job where I sit and think (and talk via typing) for hours on end. It's all VERY interesting if you happen to be interested in the subjects I deal with. I have people that read pages and pages of things I post in our forums and some of them even post page long replies to me. The trick is that most people aren't really interested in the kind of work I do. When I can pull a game off a shelf and say “I developed this ya know?” people are going to think that it's super cool and exciting. However, in real life most people just are interested in it. It's like watching a writer write. There's not much to see until the book's done (or the movie's out).

Speaking of which: I've decided to start pursuing getting my book published again. (Yes, I've written a book. In fact, I've written two novels. The short one is almost 100,000 words long.) I don't feel I've really given it a good try yet. The problem is that I started messing with game development right after I finished my latest book. I wanted to take a break and let my brain rest before I edited the book. I wanted to come at it fresh without remembering exactly what I had written before. That part seemed to go perfectly and I feel the editing really did go better because of the break. However, when the time came to find a publisher I was up to my neck in game development work. Now that work is settling down (or should be in the next few weeks) I need to spend some time looking for a publisher.

There's more to talk about really, but I think I'll leave it there for now. I can save some for tomorrow's blog. I have a lot running through my head and getting it down on “paper” is good for me. Plus what I mainly do now is write (for one reason or another) and the blog helps me hone my skills. Either way, I hope you enjoyed the pictures and could figure out what most of them were. The piles of stuff might be a mystery so I'll explain: Mom Y. went to an auction today and those are some of the things she bought. As a US Citizen she can never get enough “stuff”, lol.

Here's wishing you all a goodnight from South Carolina!
