A Mainly Restful Saturday
The last couple of days have been alright. Of course, most of yesterday ended up being about fixing the car. After a bit of thought and deliberation Thursday night Dad and I came to the conclusion that the most likely cause of the van's problems was the ignition coil. It would only start misfiring after it got hot. The best explanation for that is a bad ignition coil. So, we went down to Pull-A-Part and grabbed another coil. We were gone, back, and had replaced the coil in less than an hour I think. It worked great! Of course, right after the test drive the alternator died... I was stunned... Still, it couldn't be helped. So, Dad and I went back to the Pull-A-Part and grabbed an alternator. It was bad... I was stunned X2....
Before I go on here are some pics of the kids wearing discount Halloween mustaches :)
In fact I was so stunned that I wasn't sure it was actually a bad alternator. Of course, I didn't know how it could be anything else. If a car is running and you pull off one of the battery terminals and the car dies it's a bad alternator. That had been 100% true in all my experiences. Well, that was what seemed to be happening this time. However, the alternator we had picked up from Pull-A-Part looked brand new. What were the odds that it was bad? Well, on our third trip to the Pull-A-Part we grabbed a second alternator. I was a little nervous about it. I cranked the car very unsure of what to expect. I pulled off one of the battery terminals and the car kept running like a champ. Thank the Lord it had just been a bad alternator. Of course, what were the odds that a part would break moments after I had replaced a different one? Either way, today I put yet another “new” tire on the van. Now it's up and running great. Well, great for a van that's close to twenty years old and has probably around 500,000 miles on it, lol.
Other than car work I've just been playing games and talking with other game developers. Les introduced me to Tom (I can't spell his last name) who is one of the developers for a game called Superhot. It's a wild First Person Shooter where time only moves when you do. I've also spoken a bit with the lead developer of Bolt Riley. It's an adventure game that's basically about the life of Bob Marley. It's kind of a wild concept. It's really cool to be able to help other developers with advice and feedback. Making friends is very important for independent developers. Fortunately I really like it. There may come a day when I'm working with some of these guys on one game or another. It's good to build as many bridges as you can :)
Either way, it's Saturday and Joey is going to be on playing tanks. He called me to see if I wanted to get on with him. Of course I said yes, lol. So, I need to wrap this up and run. Goodnight from South Carolina!
